What Is Accreditation?

Accreditation is the independent evaluation of conformity assessment bodies against recognised standards to ensure their impartiality and competence. Through the application of national and international standards, government, procurers and consumers can have confidence in the calibration and test results, inspection reports and certifications provided.

Accreditation bodies, which have been evaluated by peers as competent, sign arrangements that enhance the acceptance of products and services across national borders, thereby creating a framework to support international trade through the removal of technical barriers

About Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ):

JAS-ANZ is the government-appointed accreditation body for Australia and New Zealand responsible for providing accreditation of conformity assessment bodies (CABs) in the fields of certification and inspection. Accreditation by JAS-ANZ demonstrates the competence and independence of these bodies such as IHFE Academy.

JAS-ANZ Secretariat is located both in Canberra, Australia and Wellington, New Zealand. It is the administrative arm of the Board and its operations are overseen by a Governing Board comprising of members appointed by the Australia and New Zealand Government. Its services are now available in over 20 countries.

JAS-ANZ only accredits organisations who provide certification and/ or inspection services.

IHFE’s scope of accreditation is published on the JAS-ANZ website and the accreditation entitles IHFE to use the JAS-ANZ Accreditation Symbol and IAF Mark for our certification services.

International Cooperation

JAS-ANZ is an active member of the key accreditation organisations including the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), the Multilateral Cooperative Accreditation Arrangement (MCAA), the Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (PAC), and the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC).

A focus of these organisations are agreements, often referred to as Multilateral Recognition Agreements (MLAs) or multilateral Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRAs), that signatories will recognise one another’s accredited certificates and inspection reports. The benefit of this recognition is that it reduces the potential for re-certification or re-inspection when products and services move from one country to another.

IAF- International Accreditation Forum

The International Accreditation Forum, Inc. (IAF) is the world association of Conformity Assessment Accreditation Bodies and other bodies interested in conformity assessment in the fields of management systems, products, services, personnel and other similar programmes of conformity assessment. Its primary function is to develop a single worldwide program of conformity assessment which reduces risk for business and its customers by assuring them that accredited certificates may be relied upon.

Certificates issued by bodies accredited by members of the IAF Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA) are relied upon all over the world because the MLA assures customers that the certificate is credible. All certificates just need to be certified once and it is accepted everywhere.

IHFE Academy is accredited by JAS-ANZ, members of IAF. Therefore, all certificates issued by IHFE with IAF mark are widely accepted in the world.

It is recognized by the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) as one of five Specialist Regional Bodies (SRBs).

APLAC is a regional cooperation among accreditation bodies in the Asia Pacific region. Initially these accreditation bodies accredited testing and calibration laboratories. Increasingly, however, they now also accredit inspection bodies, reference material producers, and other related services.
